Learn
professional recruitment with our training on professional recruitment
and how to provide staffing and recruitment services.
When you're new to recruiting and staffing, learning the language of our
industry is an important step in getting on the road to making
placements and enjoying success. One of the best ways to learn
industry jargon is to actually spend time working for a recruiting firm
where you're basically forced to hear the cacophony of voices and
dialogues about all things recruiting and employment related.
Of
course, not everyone works for such a recruiting firm, or has a mentor
to bring them up to speed on current "lingo" (see my
business coaching service if having a mentor interests you).
For those of you who are new to the industry, I have provided a short
list below of commonly used terms and their definitions:
Sourcing Method -- Sourcing methods are
different ways of finding (or sourcing) candidates who are likely to be
qualified and interested in pursuing a job with a client company.
The act of sourcing refers to the method itself. For example, if a
recruiter were to say "I sourced the candidate right from their
competitor", it would mean that they contacted the candidate by
telephone while they were on the job, and successfully recruited them to
pursue a job with one of their clients
Counteroffer Situation -- A counteroffer
situation happens when a candidate who has accepted a job with another
company (usually the client of a recruiting firm) goes in to resign from
their current job, and is offered more from their existing employer to
keep them as an employee of the company, and deter them from following
through on going to work for the new company.
Online Recruiting Exchange -- The internet
plays host to several online recruiting exchanges where recruiters and
staffing firms collaborate to make split placements and generate income.
Most online recruiting exchanges provide web-based tools that enable you
to access an entire community of recruiters who are interested in
working with other recruiters. A few of the more popular
recruiting exchanges include
HireAbility,
TopEchelon and
RecruitersAlliance.
Mark-Up & Billing Rate -- When
providing a temporary staffing service, the staffing provider's
"mark-up" is the difference between the billing rate it charges a
company for an hour of work performed by one of its workers, and the
actual amount that the worker gets paid for that same hour of work.
The mark-up must exist in order for the staffing provider to earn a
profit and pay for operational expenses such as advertising, office
maintenance and workers compensation insurance.
